Thai Siam

My mouth is watering just looking at these pictures. Our parents introduced us to Thai Siam a while back based on the rave reviews they had heard. They are located in Salt Lake and recently opened a new location in Draper. Everything at Thai Siam is served individually or family style. Of course, we get everything family style so we can take home leftovers. We have tried a few different dishes, but we always seem to go back to our favorites.

APPETIZER
I don't know why we always order appetizers because we always get more than enough food, but we just can't resist the deliciousness. Here are the few appetizers we have ordered and would highly suggest.

Crab in a Blanket | Light, crisp fried wontons encase our delicious blend of cream cheese and imitation crab for a yummy bond of wondrous flavor. Served eight to a plate, and of course come with our signature Thai sweet and sour dipping sauce.  $4.95
(shown below)

Calamari | Delicate cross-sections of Thai-marinated calamari dipped in our secret batter are lightly fried to a crisp golden brown. Served with our barely spicy Thai sweet chili sauce. $7.95 (S)

CURRY
So... this is one of those dishes we seem to consistently order and never venture out on a different kind of curry, but I could seriously eat this whole dish by myself. It is so yummy!

Gang Ga Ree — Yellow Curry | Coconut milk and potatoes pair beautifully in this delicious yellow curry dish. Select chicken, beef or pork and and we’ll add it to this sumptous mixture of flavors. $8.50 Individual $12.95 Family style(V) (S)

RICE AND NOODLES

Guay-Teaw Pad Kee Mao — Drunken Noodles | We stir-fry your choice of meat (chicken, beef or pork) with thick rice noodles, and season it with our flavorful oyster sauce, fresh Thai basil, Thai chile, and garlic. We also throw in chopped mushrooms, chopped tomato, and baby corn. It’s just “that” good. $8.50 Individual $12.95 Family style (V) (SS)

WOK-FRIED DISHES
We definitely went on a lim trying the Crispy Basil Duck this last time we went. It wouldn't be something I would order again. The duck was delicious, but there was way too much basil. This is the one area of the menu we seem to venture out on some of my favorites are the Cashew Stir-Fry and the Garlic Stir-Fry

Pad Gra Prow Ped — Crispy Basil Duck | ”A twist on our basil stir fry, with bell peppers, onions, broccoli and the same sauce, but the basil is flash fried to give it a wonderful crispyness. Add some sensational, succulent duck and you have a marvelously satisfying dish. $8.50 Individual $13.95 Family style
(V) (SS)

I hope these reviews are helpful and you will have a new favorite restaurant.

Log Haven

Log Haven is rated the most romantic restaurant in Utah every year. The food is not only moan worthy, but the atmosphere is indescribable. Log Haven is located in the heart of Millcreek Canyon, the view stunning. Anytime Wes and I are looking for a fine dining restaurant this is the place that comes to mind first.

Wes took me here for my 27th birthday. Here was our line-up:

Grilled Calamari - Cerignola Olive Mignonette
smoked tomato coulis, capers, lemon mayonnaise, garlic crouton

The Grilled Calamari was mediocre. I probably wouldn't order it again. I personally like deep fried calamari better, but if you are looking for a healthier appetizer and like calamari this is a good option.

Natural Skirt Steak*
frijoles borrachos, poblano chimichurri, tortilla battered sweet onion, lime aioli

Wes got the Natural Skirt Steak. When our waitress was describing it I thought she was going to have a foodgasim. Wes enjoyed his steak, he thought the sauce on it was amazing. Let's just say Wes probably wouldn't order it again...

Smoked Duck and Hand Cut Serrano Chile Pasta*
poblanos, habanero cheddar, mango salsa, chipotle butter

First let me say the thought of eating a duck makes me so sad for some reason, but this meal was so delicious words can't even describe how good it was. If you have never had duck before it is super tender, moist and juicy. The duck was cut up into medallions and the pasta was like nothing I have ever had before. The pasta was super soft and the sauce was hmmm.. perfection. I highly suggest this dish.

City Weekly Best Of

Do you ever have a hard time deciding where to eat or end up dining at the same place each weekend? Well I may have a solution for your whoas.

Each year Wes and I look forward to City Weekly's Best Of Utah. City Weekly rates restaurants in different categories and writes reviews on them. To break our habit of consistently eating at the same restaurants Wes and I started a new tradition. When the dining guide comes out each year we read the reviews of restaurants we have never eaten before that sound appetizing to us, we cut out the review and put it in a jar. Each weekend when we plan on dining out we pick a restaurant out of the jar and viola. We have found so many good restaurants by doing this that we wouldn't normally have ventured out to.
